Sama Yone follows Senegalese surf champion Sidy Camara on a surf trip through West Africa in search of a mythical wave: a powerful left-hand break in the Atlantic, on an archipelago off the West African coast.
As the journey unfolds, the search for this wave becomes a reflection of Sidy’s own journey. Coming from a surf scene that has long existed outside the international spotlight, Sidy has, through unwavering determination, earned his place among the continent’s leading surfers.
Blending performance, exploration and an intimate portrait, Sama Yone offers a fresh perspective on high-level surfing in West Africa. Through the search for one wave, the film tells the story of a surf scene on the rise. It reveals a region of exceptional waves and follows an athlete pushing the boundaries of his sport.
