Torn from my sleep and my dream just as I was about to come out of a bursting tube of light, it's Jerome's shaggy face shouting at me that brings me back to reality: "Get up, let's go surfing" he told me excitedly.

"Note for later I thought to myself, take him seriously the next time he talks about night surfing."
