Alvin and the Wave

02/01/2026 - 22:33
When 14-year-old Alvin Setyawan of West Java first saw his father riding waves in the long, inviting pointbreak rights near his village, it looked like magic to the boy.

How could a man “stand on waves” like that, he marveled. Of course, Alvin’s father wasn’t just standing—he was surfing. Since banking that particular core memory, Alvin’s become one of the most talented and fascinating young surfers of the region, a true wizard to watch on any craft, long or short. “It’s such an incredible feeling to be able to catch a wave and cruise,” he describes in Drifter’s newest short film “Alvin’s Way.” Watch Alvin’s intricate footwork and enjoy this gorgeous portrait of a young style master on the rise.
