This story follows Australian free surfer Torren Martyn and shaper Simon Jones as they collaborate on creating their latest surfboard model, "Calypte," named after the sailboat from their year-long Indonesian adventure.

The initial prototype, “The Ugly Duckling" sparked a new chapter in Torren's surfing journey.

Working together to develop their new model, Torren and Simon let their decade-long friendship guide them forward.

"The Ugly Duckling" is episode 1 of the documentary series "Not By Chance".

For two years and on 6 continents he've been documenting the process of making a surfboard.

Kelly have been specifically focusing on the interpersonal relationship between the shaper and the surfer and how that dictates the progression of the boards and the individuals involved, as well as the implications for surfing in general.

These are shows that will be interesting even to non-surfers
