WATER GET NO ENEMY

46 minutes – 2021 (France)

Directed by Arthur Bourbon and written by Damien Castera
Executive producers: Franck Corbery and Morgan le Faucheur

Co-produced by Hand Studio & Almo Film

In June 2018, professional surfers Damien Castera and Arthur Bourbon flew to Liberia, one of the poorest countries in the world. For their film “Water Get No Enemy“ they met the first generation of surfers in the country.

Among them are former child soldiers who, 15 years after the end of the civil war, want to rebuild themselves thanks to surfing.
In the 1990s and 2000s, most street children had no choice but to join the «Demon Forces» of ex-warlord Charles Taylor. Combatants, ammunition carriers, servants, cooks or sex slaves, they were thousands of children recruited by the various warring factions.
At a time when Ellen John-son-Sirleaf, Nobel Peace Prize winner and first woman elected president in Africa, handed over power to George Weah, former best football player in the world, what about the situation in Liberia?

Damien and Arthur went to meet war children who in some areas of the country had swapped their assault rifles for surfboards. The idea: share these waves with the first generation of surfers in Liberia.

"RUN (Rencontres Urbaines de Nancy) was born from a statement: who can still miss urban cultures?

Dynamic and influential, in all fields - art, music, lifestyle, sports - they inspire and make people dream.

Numbers of festivals are held in France and in Europe today, bringing together different generations and various audiences.

However, an event capable of bringing together this milieu, these urban culture circles, around long-term reflections, is still missing."

It is this summer 2021 that everything begins.

The zero edition welcomes you: exhibitions, concerts, screenings, meetings await you.

Come and discover them!
