The Odyssey Through the Valley of Roro is our latest film, shaped by a month and a half on the road tracing Java’s southern coastline from the furthest western point all the way east. We scored an old second hand bus and stripped it down, pulled out the old seats, rebuilt the inside, added board racks, and gave it a fresh airbrushed look so it could carry everything and everyone we needed.
The bus became a moving base, packed with friends, family, boards and whatever else made sense to bring. People joined for stretches, others dropped off along the way and the route bent around the coastline as we went, doubling back, drifting forward, figuring it out as it happened.
Part surf trip, part road movie, part fever dream, it follows the trip as it actually happened, long days in the water, slow mornings, late nights and everything in between.
Named after Nyi Roro Kidul, the spirit said to inhabit these shores, the film holds onto the mix of chaos and calm, the small moments as much as the bigger ones and the people who shaped it along the way.
